This weekend hands-on experimental intuitive painting course takes place in the professional Lawrence art studio in Brighton and Hove, Sussex. It will unleash your inner artist, make you feel alive and connect you with like-minded souls.

Over two days you will go on a deep journey into the world of mixed-media textured abstract painting: let go of perfectionism, access creative courage, joy and flow, deepen your connection with intuition and release any stuck emotions by experimenting with texture, layers, colour, shape and mark making and putting “you“ into your artwork.

Because it’s a full weekend you will have the luxury of time. You can create a unique textured masterpiece, enjoying every brush stroke. But, I should warn you . . .

This isn’t a typical Brighton based painting workshop or course. In fact, the main tool you will be using isn’t the brush, it’s your mind, free from limitations.

Together, we will . . .

Paint intuitively! Spontaneously to the music, allowing the paint to evolve and reveal itself freely into an explosion of colours, patterns, marks, shapes, texture on the canvas.

Paint big! Big canvas, big brush movements, a bold colour pallet and even the fingers. The intention is to let go of any expectations.

Create juicy texture! You will be surprised what you can create with gesso, cracle paste, kitchen foil, string, cardboard, plastic net and more….endless self-expression using texture!!

Get messy! This is not about making pretty things. It’s rare opportunity to let go of perfectionism and experiment with a wide range of art materials (acrylic, watercolours, pastels, chalk, gesso etc) to free our inner artist and find our creative voice in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.

Get creative! Art has no limitations, we use every day tools: window squeegee, credit card, bubble wrap, fork, scraper, feather, chopstick, ANYTHING to get our imagination going! Suddenly the concept of “painting” expands! It’s a painting wonderland full of possibilities.

Free ourselves from limiting beliefs! This dynamic and creative free-flow painting style will move us through past fears, creative blocks and self-doubt into joy and freedom!

Express ourselves! By opening our mind and listening to our heart, we can express our soul without boundaries or judgments. While experimenting with painting, we will build a relationship with who we are, reconnect to our inner child and fully express ourselves including the wisdom that is forever inside us. There is such freedom and joy in this!

Who is this art workshop for?

It doesn’t matter if you’ve never painted before or you are a PRO! My painting workshop experience is a joy-filled, judgment-free zone! Everyone is welcome. Even those who think they aren’t creative or can’t paint or draw. Also, this is a great opportunity for creative types who haven’t picked up a paintbrush in a while but are longing to express themselves through art. We can play and feel like a kid again without worrying about the end result. Nobody will judge what we create together. We are all on a journey to find our inner artist.

Don’t worry if you have done one of my painting workshops before, this will be unique experience as we go deeper by adding new dimension to your artwork: texture plus you will explore further layering and composition in abstract art.

The people who come to this class are from all walks of life: freelancers, entrepreneurs, website designers, accountants, yoga teachers, success coaches, parents, artists ….whatever! This could be fun and creative way to celebrate your birthday, anniversary or any other occasion in Brighton and Hove.

What to expect on the day?

I don’t teach you to paint like me. I teach you how to learn to paint like you.

Day 1: Through fun, guided group and individual exercises we’ll explore wide range of mixed-media art materials, experiment with an unconventional tools with a big focus on creating juicy texture, composition and layering process. After a delicious lunch together, you will have time to develop your first layer of texture on your large canvas.

Day 2: Through guided individual exercises you will try many abstract painting techniques including layering, mark making and exploring your colour palette and finding your shapes, symbols which you will apply gradually on your large textured surfaced canvas. After a delicious lunch together, you will have enough time to add final touches and dry your intuitive abstract painting which you will take home with you at the end of the workshop.

This is a weekend painting course to accommodate enough time for the textured abstract artwork to dry between layering stages.

Painting helps us to come back to ourselves because the busyness of the world makes us lose ourselves.
