My story:

I’ve been told that “to paint, you have to be an artist,” but I never went to an art school. Yet, I wanted to create, express myself, experiment on a large canvas. I don’t know why? It just called to me.  

But I didn’t know where to start. Do I even know how to paint?

I was afraid I wouldn’t be good enough. I can’t draw very well?

I spent years browsing art shops and buying supplies but never using them. How do I even start? 

I wasted time on things that didn’t fill me with joy instead of making space for creativity. 

When I look back, I realise there were three obstacles holding me back:

1. Lack of space - Where would I put these canvases and art materials and what if I spill paint everywhere?

2. Lack of tools - What should I buy and how do I use it?

3. Lack of inspiration and support - Who can I ask for advice? How do I know if I’m doing it correctly?

And that’s how the idea of Paint With Me was born. I’ve hired a beautiful professional art studio in Brighton. I’ve got the large canvases and paints ready to go. That means obstacle number 1 and 2 are solved.

Now for obstacle number 3! I’m going to show you how abstract painting brought a tremendous amount of joy into my life. It helped me understand myself better - my feelings and emotions. It melted away my stress and gave me a new lease on life.

But don’t get me wrong! This isn’t an art class. I’m not your teacher. I’m here to create a space for you to experiment, express and find your inner artist. I want to share that journey with you and have some fun along the way.

My own journey has been interesting . . .

I started out trying to create something beautiful that others would like. I wondered what would sell and whether I could make a living from it. But I quickly realised that way of thinking stifles the creative process. It sucks the joy out of painting.

Now I paint in order to express my emotions, to feel alive in the moment, and to connect with a deeper part of myself. I push myself let go of the inner critic. I practice surrendering to the creative process. 

It’s a liberating journey.

Would you like to join me? You don’t need any experience. All you have to do is come along, open minded, to a beautiful professional Lawrence Art Studio in central Brighton & Hove. I’ll take care of everything else.

Please note: This is not about creating beautiful art or being good at painting. It’s a way to express yourself, experiment with art materials while having fun. With abstract painting there is no right or wrong so you can’t make mistakes. Your hands will move intuitively, without thought. I will be there to inspire you and guid you. Together we will learn to let go, surrender and see what emerges in front of us. No previous experience is required.

Cancelation Policy: due to the nature of the workshop (art supplies and canvases purchased in advance, limited capacity in the professional art studio) I will not be able to offer a full refund once a purchase has been made for any reason. If you cancel and give me at least 4 weeks notice, you will receive a refund of 50% or a possibility to transfer your booking to another future event if there are spaces available. If you cancel after the 4 week cut-off date no refund can be issued. If the workshop is cancelled by the event organiser for any reason, either the workshop will be re-arrange or full refund will be offered based on the preference of the attendee.
