Whether that be in nature, or in your home, or the manifestation of somebody’s style through clothing, artwork and interiors - we are surrounded and immersed by the beauty of expression. Including Brighton & Hove city and local small business owners bursting with expression.
As a Brighton-based female portrait photographer, I was incredibly excited when another local Brighton-based female business owner got in touch about a lifestyle brand photoshoot for pictures to use for her interior design company website & social media, Elixir.
Melanie, the founder, creative director of Elixir Interior Design has been helping people since 2012 to make their creative dreams become a reality: less house & more home!
Similarly, like other creative entrepreneurs, Melanie has decided to pivot her business during the lockdown by re-branding her website & introducing online interior design service.
Melanie innate talent and flare for aesthetics can be seen on her website and Instagram, and yet there were not many pictures of the person behind these creations.

Elixir mission is to create spaces unique like you. And as personal brand photographer I love designing unique portrait photoshoots like you.
This indoor brand photoshoot was particularly unique and personal, as it took place inside Melanie’s own home - a true haven bursting with her own style.
By opening the doors to her house, she showed me how and where the creative magic happens.
This allowed us to play with the combination of textures, patterns and colour tones, which had an illuminating effect on the final brand portrait photos.
Taking photos in Melanie’s own home allowed her to be in her element, as she could authentically exist in a space that is constantly inspiring her.
It’s also the place where Melanie conjures up ideas for her business, which added to the intimate and personal nature of the shoot.
We got so much for free by being in this environment, and it was fulfilling to be on the other side of the camera and witness her come alive.
It was as if the backdrop, which is an honest manifestation of Melanie’s creative mind, acted with us - helping to elevate and define the pictures, as every object, colour, texture and image is an integral part of Melanie’s creative choices.
It was an honour to capture Melanie immersed in her own home, and helping her to become more visible.
So much of Melanie’s job is showing her internal artistic expressions and presenting it as something outside of herself. This made it a really refreshing and rewarding experience to work with her to capture Melanie’s inner and outer beauty. With the backdrop of her own home, it was so easy to capture her radiance and authentic self.
So often, we like to see the pictures of people behind a brand.
When we are inspired by what they have to offer, we harbour a curiosity about how they look and how they hold themselves.
Although a picture can’t tell us everything, it can definitely tell us part of the story. This is why it is paramount to have a range of good quality brand photos that honestly reflect who you are.
